According to El Desmarques, Leeds scrapped with Betis to sign the Paris Saint-Germain attacker, who wound up joining the Spanish outfit.
Jese, who had an unmemorable stint with Stoke City last season, is primarily a winger.
And what would’ve happened with Leeds starlet Jack Clarke had United boss Marcelo Bielsa signed him?
Jese is a player who cost the French giants £22 million in 2016 [Marca]. Bielsa would’ve had to play him, given his profile, and obviously Clarke would’ve suffered.
The 18-year-old winger has been a revelation in West Yorkshire since being handed a debut by Bielsa earlier this season, but if Jese was in the squad then that would have meant the teenager getting less game time.
Many Leeds fans would’ve loved to have seen a player like Jese turn up at Elland Road, but the silver lining to failing to get him means Clarke can flourish and that, as United supporters will no doubt agree, is a fair trade off.
