The Liverpool goalkeeper has often come in for criticism at the club.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has backed current Reds number one Simon Mignolet via talkSPORT, broadcast May 6th.
The Belgian stopper has endured a rocky career at Anfield since arriving from Sunderland in 2013.
This season has seen him come under pressure once again as several high profile mistakes have cost his side.
Indeed, there have been numerous reports that the club will look to replace him this summer as several ‘keepers have been linked.
Dudek though, has offered his backing to Mignolet, saying that he likes him and mistakes are always going to happen.
“I know they are criticising him, but I defend him,” he told talkSPORT.
“I like him very much as a goalkeeper. He’s very good with his feet and very good on the line. Of course you’re going to make mistakes.”
“He needs the support from the players and the manager. I think he’s got very good support from Klopp. I like this goalkeeper.”
While an exit has been rumoured for Mignolet, he certainly does appear to have the backing of Jurgen Klopp.
He has proved his worth on several occasions too; with the latter half of this campaign having seen him look more assured under the German’s leadership.
There is also an argument that his performances have not been aided by the fact he has often played behind a struggling defence during his time at the club.
With a busy summer transfer window predicted, he could be one of several that end up leaving, although arguably other areas of the team are in more dire need of improvement.
