Liverpool have missed out on many, many players over the years, just like any other club.
The Reds have been exceptional in the transfer market in recent years, but they have of course missed out on some players.
Some have gone on to become stars elsewhere, whilst others have fallen by the wayside and failed to live up to their potential.
One of those cases is Jeroen Lumu, a name that may not mean all that much to Liverpool fans, even though he nearly joined them.
Lumu has told Voetbal Primeur that he could have signed a six-year deal with Liverpool, even speaking to a Reds director about a deal.
Lumu was just 18 at the time and playing for Willem II, but instead ended up joining Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria – and claims he could have been one of the best players in the world if he was able to ‘act normal’.
“I was able to sign a six-year contract with Liverpool. I even had a director of the club on the line,” said Lumu. “If I had been normal in my life, I would have just become the best of the best. But I can’t act normal, that’s my biggest problem,” he added.

The Dutch attacker was playing first-team football for Willem as a teenager, but his career went off the rails when he signed for Ludogorets, as he has been a nomad ever since.
Lumu has also turned out for Heerenveen, Dordrecht, St Polten, Samsunspor, Delhi Dynamos, Petrolul Ploiesti, Arouca and FC Sarburtalo.
Now a free agent, Lumu hasn’t made Liverpool feel that they missed out – and his career will be a case of what could have been.
