Pundit Jermaine Jenas has torn into Virgil van Dijk for complaining after his miss for Liverpool in their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

It was indeed a gilt-edged opportunity for the £240,000-a-week man to level the scored for his side from a close-range header that he managed not to even get on target. After his miss, the former Southampton colossus had a whine, telling the referee that he was fouled, which affected his attempt.

During the clash, pundit Jermaine Jenas was extremely critical of Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk after his reaction to missing the chance against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The renowned voice was especially critical of the highly-acclaimed defender for his display against Gary O’Neil’s men as well, alongside Ibrahima Konate as well.

But it seems pundit Jermaine Jenas was especially incensed by Liverpool icon Virgil van Dijk after how he reacted to his miss against Bournemouth.

“Van Dijk is complaining about getting pulled but it’s an excuse and a ridiculous one. How did he miss that? He watched it all the way and it’s a free header”, he said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

Part and parcel of football

While pundit Jermaine Jenas is justified in slating Virgil van Dijk for his reaction to his missed header as Liverpool suffered their 12th league defeat of the season against Bournemouth, this is part and parcel of football.

The contact made on the Netherlands captain was minimal but ultimately, players tend to get frustrated and have a moan at referees in every single game, and has been the case since the end of time.

Perhaps the bigger worry for Jurgen Klopp should be that the 31-year-old has had such an underwhelming campaign and as time passes, it seems as if he looks no closer to returning to his usual self.
