Writing for Yahoo, Jermaine Jenas has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur perhaps got carried away with themselves following the win over Manchester City last month.
Pep Guardiola’s side went to White Hart Lane on the back of a six-match winning streak in the Premier League, but Tottenham beat the Sky Blues 2-0.
It was a result which more or less suggested that Spurs could be a force to be reckoned with as far as the title race goes, but they have not built on that victory just yet.
Mauricio Pochettino’s boys have had eight games in all competitions since then and have not won any of them.
But there were promising signs of improvement for the Lilywhites – who went down 1-0 to Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley last week – on Sunday after drawing 1-1 at in-form Arsenal.
And former Tottenham midfielder admits that his old side might have lost the run of themselves after beating Guardiola and co.
“It’s possible that after beating Manchester City a month ago, Spurs got a bit carried away,” he wrote for Yahoo.com.
“They still haven’t won a match since then, but they came out at the Emirates looking like a completely different beast to the one that went down with a whimper at Wembley four days earlier.”
Spurs’ mid-season slump should abate soon enough following the return of Harry Kane, who announced his return to the fold after six weeks out by scoring a penalty at the Emirates last weekend.
Son Heung-min’s goals have dried up a tad, while Vincent Janssen remains far more of a miss than a hit.
