Jermaine Jenas gave his take on the situation of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli on BT Sport 2 (9:09pm, October 22, 2020).

The former Tottenham midfielder believes that Alli will be “hurting” that he is not playing regularly in head coach Jose Mourinho’s starting lineup.

Jenas added that the England international midfielder will not want to leave Spurs and will want to get back to his best.

The Englishman made the comments while he was on co-commentary duty for Tottenham’s Europa League game against LASK at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.

Alli did not start the match, but the 24-year-old came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute, as the Premier League side won 3-0.

Jenas said about Alli on BT Sport 2 (9:09pm, October 22, 2020): “There is no way that he can look around right now, look at his surroundings, look at the players at the football club right now and not want to be a part of it.

“Obviously, his pride is going to be dented and he is going to be hurting, but we need to remember that I think he is only 24 years of age, Dele, and he has done so much in a short space of time.

“People forget that it is hard to maintain those standards at times, and I think he will be itching to get back on the good side of Jose.”

Getting back to his best

Alli has been left out of Tottenham matchday squads at times this season, and with the arrivals of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius in the summer transfer window, the 24-year-old faces a stiff competition for a place in the starting lineup.

However, the England international does have what it takes to get back into the lineup, and if he continues to work hard and takes the chances he will get in the coming weeks, then he could re-establish himself as an important figure in the team.
