Pundit Jermaine Jenas is backing Brendan Rodgers to be high in Daniel Levy’s thinking for the Tottenham Hotspur job.

Jenas has been speaking to The Mirror about Tottenham’s managerial situation.

Tottenham parted ways with Antonio Conte last month and put Cristian Stellini in interim charge.

Stellini has already gone though after Tottenham’s embarrassing 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

Now it’s over to Ryan Mason until the summer but Tottenham need to have a permanent appointment in mind.

Jenas has now admitted that he would ‘quite like’ the prospect of Tottenham appointing Brendan Rodgers as their new boss.

Jenas thinks Daniel Levy and co will also have a real interest in appointing Rodgers this summer.

The former Spurs midfielder believes Rodgers’ experience with young players will really appeal to Levy, feeling that is the route Tottenham will go down.

“Obviously Julian Nagelsmann is an option,” said Jenas. “I personally see Brendan Rodgers as an option and I quite like that. I think the club would as well because he develops young players. That is the route I think [Levy] will go down. The Mauricio door seems to be shut in my opinion,” he added.

Daniel Levy has liked Brendan Rodgers before

Rodgers is out of work at the moment having parted ways with Leicester City earlier this month.

It would be bold of Tottenham to go and appoint a manager who was just sacked by a relegation-threatened team.

However, Levy does have previous interest in Rodgers.

Spurs wanted Rodgers as a replacement for Harry Redknapp way back in 2012, having impressed at Swansea City.

Rodgers told The Times in 2013 that he snubbed the move in favour of becoming Liverpool boss.

Even as recently as March, TalkSPORT reported that Tottenham are big fans of Rodgers and could move for him as their new manager.

Rodgers has always pushed an attractive brand of football and his stock was incredibly high even a year to 18 months ago.

Leicester dialled back their spending and Rodgers just wasn’t able to keep the Foxes punching above their weight.

Landing somebody like Julian Nagelsmann will be difficult but maybe Tottenham will pivot to Rodgers amid their ongoing chaos.
