Newcastle United lost at Anfield in the Premier League at the weekend.
The 35-year-old former Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder made the comments following the Magpies’ 2-0 defeat to Liverpool away from home at Anfield in the Premier League this past Saturday evening.
Jenas, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport and BT Sport, believes that Newcastle could stay up due to other teams being worse than them, and has outlined the presence of Rafael Benitez as the manager as a key factor.
The Chronicle quotes Jenas as saying: “They might just stay up on the basis of how bad the teams are below them. Where they give me some hope is with Rafa and how he organises his side.”
Staying up
Newcastle have been battling relegation throughout the season, and there is a very good chance that the Magpies will have to wait until the final day of the campaign in order to be safe.
The Magpies do have some good players, but the team as a whole are not very good.
Benitez is one of the best managers in the world, and the St. James’ Park faithful should be optimistic that the former Liverpool and Real Madrid head coach will do something magical in the final weeks of the season.
