Serge Aurier struggled badly for Tottenham Hotspur as they were beaten 7-2 by Bayern Munich last night.

Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport that he thinks Serge Aurier must have been a nightmare for Mauricio Pochettino to manage at Tottenham Hotspur.

Aurier’s defensive performance during Tottenham’s 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich last night was woeful.

The £23 million right-back (BBC Sport) also accidentally trampled on his opponent in the first-half, when trying to avoid contact.

Although the Spurs man didn’t mean to cause any harm, his evasive action could actually have landed him in some trouble, if the referee had deemed it to be deliberate.

Aurier was sent off at the weekend for Tottenham against Southampton, but he did not seem any less rash last night.

And Jenas admits that he thinks Aurier must be a real challenge for Pochettino to keep control of.

“I just think he must be a manager’s nightmare,” Jenas said.

“He obviously has ability as he has been at top football clubs but he’s been a liability since he arrived at Spurs in terms of the discipline side of the game.”

Aurier’s terrible performance last night may well see him lose his place in Spurs’s starting line-up.

The Ivorian is suspended in the Premier League, and whether Pochettino will trust him to start again in Europe now looks doubtful.
