Manchester City have far more strength in depth that Tottenham Hotspur.

Jermaine Jenas arrives at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards at SSE Arena on October 21, 2018 in London, England.

BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas explained how Tottenham need to sign a striker like Manchester City hitman Gabriel Jesus, if they are to reach the next level, when speaking during a guest appearance on Saturday’s Football Focus programme.

Harry Kane is currently out injured for Spurs, leaving Fernando Llorente as Mauricio Pochettino’s only other recognised centre-forward.

Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura can also operate through the middle as auxiliary strikers, but they are far more useful in the wide areas.

Tottenham currently sit four points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, having played a game more than the Reds, and their lack of top quality cover for Harry Kane might just come back to bite them.

Jenas told BBC’s Football Focus programme how Spurs should be looking to bring in a player like Manchester City’s Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus:

Jermaine Jenas of Spurs looks on from the bench during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City at White Hart Lane on April 9, 2011 in London, England.

“They’re one player away, and that one player is very difficult to find. Is there a better version of Fernando Llorente to come in if something happens to Harry Kane? You know how Gabriel Jesus went to City as a very young, very big prospect. That’s what they need to find, that type of player that’s young, that’s prepared to sit right underneath Harry Kane, but he’s going to be a big one.”

Obviously City would not entertain the idea of selling Jesus to Tottenham, so Mauricio Pochettino will have to find his very own version of the Brazilian.

Or at least, that’s what Jenas believes needs to happen.

Whether Spurs go down that route, however, remains to be seen.
