Jermaine Jenas says Mauricio Pochettino would improve Ross Barkley

Everton’s Ross Barkley is reportedly wanted by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Jermaine Jenas has suggested to Football.London that Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley would improve if he played under Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.

According to The London Evening Standard, Tottenham are interested in signing Barkley from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas has said that the England international would improve if he plays under Pochettino.

“100% [Pochettino would improve him],” Jenas told Football.London about Barkley. “If he took me back to Spurs he would take me to the next level because he is that good of a manager.

“I can’t think of many players that have been there, who have done what he’s asked them to, that have not come out of the end of it.”

“In my eyes, there is no end to Mauricio’s ability to change a player and make them even better,” added Jenas.

“For me, that’s why you see a lot of players happy at Spurs and why they want to stay. As a footballer essentially every year you want to become better, and that’s what he does.”

Meanwhile, Everton manager Ronald Koeman has suggested that Barkley could remain at the Merseyside outfit for the 2017-18 season.

The Englishman has been on the books of the Toffees his entire professional club football career so far, but his current contract runs out next summer.

Everton want around £50 million in order to part complain with Barkley, according to BBC Sport, but manager Koeman has suggested that the 23-year-old could remain at Goodison Park for the 2017-18 campaign if there is no interest.

“If there’s no interest he will be part of the team,” Koeman told BBC Sport about Barkley. “He is training with Everton, he is part of the team and training in a good way.”

Barkley is very promising and hugely talented, and the attacking midfielder would be a good signing for Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

However, if the Englishman remains at Everton, then he could prove to be an important player in the Toffees’ quest to break into the top six of the Premier League this campaign.
