Paulo Gazzaniga was among the heroes for Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
Tottenham Hotspur drew first blood in their League Cup semi-final with Chelsea on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s established a slender 1-0 first-leg lead in the tie after a Harry Kane penalty proved enough to see off the Blues at Wembley.
Despite the result, Tottenham were a touch fortunate to get the victory and much of the credit must go to Spurs goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
The Argentine made a number of saves, including one brilliant one toward the end of the first half to push Callum Hudson-Odoi’s deflected cross against the post.
It was a key moment in the game and Tottenham legend Jermaine Jenas has lauded Gazzaniga for his ‘absolutely phenomenal’ save.
He told BBC Sport: “The save is absolutely phenomenal as he manages to tip it onto the post while he is backpedaling.
“It has been a good half of football, Chelsea have just shaded the possession but Spurs deserve to be ahead.”
Gazzaniga, a £2.5 million signing from Southampton in 2017 [ESPN], is now comfortably the Lilywhites’ second-in-command, behind Hugo Lloris and ahead of Michel Vorm.
Pochettino’s side won’t be thinking about the final yet, because both sides do it all again on January 22 at Stamford Bridge. Judging by last night’s display, the Blues are by no means out of it.
