Tottenham Hotspur will be preparing for a Champions League final next month after their Premier League campaign came to an end.
Jermaine Jenas has played down Mauricio Pochettino’s recent comments about Tottenham as he claimed that he has a ‘history’ of doing that.
Pochettino recently stated that he would be ‘stupid’ to stay at the North London club without ‘no plan’ after guiding them to the Champions League final, as quoted by BBC Sport.
It has been a remarkable season for the club, who have finished in the top four and are one game away from winning the European Cup. All of this despite not signing any new players during the previous two transfer windows.
Speaking to Football Focus on BBC One (11/05/2019 at 12:20 pm), Jenas eased the worry that Pochettino may leave the club at the end of the season.
“On the quotes, I think if you go over the last four years there has kind of been a history of Mauricio Pochettino saying a few things that have made people think, ‘hang on a minute what does he mean by that’,” Jenas told Football Focus.
“If he wins the Champions League, I think he’s already been promised some money to spend, that club is only going in one direction and he can only be a part of it.”
On the last day of the season, Spurs recorded a 2-2 against Everton to ensure that they finish the season in fourth place, one point above bitter rivals Arsenal.
But now, the attention will turn to their Champions League clash against Liverpool where Pochettino could guide the club to their first major trophy in many years.
If he does pull it off then it will no doubt go down as one of the most remarkable triumphs in recent times and arguably the greatest, if not the greatest moment in the club’s history.
