Tottenham have performed admirably once again under Mauricio Pochettino.
Kane, 24, has taken his goalscoring rate to a whole new level with 36 strikes in 41 league and cup encounters, his latest goal coming after Spurs appealed to the Premier League to award the England striker with his effort against Stoke City.
Jenas also picked Belgian defender Vertonghen, who has formed a fearsome partnership at the back with summer signing Davinson Sanchez of late as Toby Alderweireld continues to be overlooked by Mauricio Pochettino.
Former England midfielder Jenas believes Vertonghen has enjoyed his best year at Spurs since the 30-year-old defender joined the north Londoners from Ajax way back in 2012. However, he thinks Liverpool’s Mo Salah will win the award.
“Kane also has to be on the list because he has had a brilliant season considering the circumstances, with Tottenham playing at Wembley and how up and down they were at the start,” Jenas said.
“Vertonghen has always been in the shadow of Toby Alderweireld but he has been a big part of why they have not missed his Belgium team-mate. I think he’s had his best season for Spurs since joining the club in 2012.
“I actually think Salah will win the award, though, because he has peaked at the right time while voting was taking place and scored some pivotal goals for Liverpool.”
Along with the Spurs duo and Premier League top scorer Salah, Jenas also picked Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Sergio Aguero for their superb contributions to what is likely to be a Premier League-winning campaign.
Vertonghen’s long-term future at Spurs remains in doubt as the versatile defender has just a year left to run on his contract, which the Daily Star claims is worth £100,000 a week.
Both Vertonghen and Kane are expected to start for Spurs on Saturday evening as they go up against the likes of De Bruyne and Silva in a huge top-of-the-table clash against City at Wembley.
