Newcastle United will play in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest midfielder Jermaine Jenas has told BBC Sport that he will be surprised if Newcastle United finish in the top 10 of the Premier League next season.
The Magpies will feature in the Premier League during the 2017-18 campaign after winning automatic promotion from the Championship this season.
Former Newcastle midfielder Jenas has admitted that he will be surprised if Rafael Benitez’s side end up in the top 10.
“If they finish in the top 10, I will be surprised, I will be very surprised,” Jenas told BBC Sport about Newcastle.
Is a top-10 finish unrealistic?
Newcastle are unlikely to finish in the top seven of the Premier League next season. Those seven spots will be taken up by Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton.
Can the Magpies end up eighth, ninth or 10th? Yes, they certainly can. After all, if Southampton, Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion can finish in the top half of the table, then why can’t Newcastle?
Of course, manager Rafael Benitez will have to make some very good signings in the summer transfer in order to push for the top 10, but once the Spaniard has got his squad sorted, then there is no reason to think any they will not finish in the top 10.
