Jermaine Jenas has criticised Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The former Tottenham midfielder believes that Bale has not been playing well this season and has done well in just one game – in a Europa League match.
The Wales international winger returned to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020.
Jenas said about Bale on BBC Radio 5 Live: “With Gaz, I felt like he (head coach Jose Mourinho) continually put him out there. It’s just not been there. The Gareth Bale that I expected to see just hasn’t been there.
“I think since the start of the season until now, we might have seen 20 minutes of it in a Europa League game where I thought, ‘Oh, he looks sharp here, he is getting back to his best’, and then nothing.”

Gareth Bale needs to step up
According to WhoScored, Bale has made two starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League and has scored one goal in six Europa League games for Spurs so far this season.
The Madrid-owned winger did well against LASK in the Europa League in December 2020, but he has failed to replicate that since.
True, the Welshman was carrying an injury when he arrived at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he has been fit for a while now.
There is still time for Bale to make a mark at Spurs in his second spell at the club and help the North London outfit achieve their targets.
Tottenham are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season and win the Europa League. Spurs have also reached the final of the EFL Cup this campaign.
