Jermaine Jenas has spotted something weird Mauricio Pochettino has said about Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at Wembley at the weekend.

Jermaine Jenas has suggested to BT Sport Score that Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino sent out a weird message by saying that his side believed their own hype after they beat Manchester United.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Watford a few weeks ago, and Pochettino suggested that his side had got carried away with their win over United.

“My mood wasn’t great, I was so disappointed [after Old Trafford],” Pochettino said to the Guardian.

“We need to improve our performance. We need to talk about reality, not perception, and the reality was that in the first-half we could have conceded.

“If we believe that because we beat Manchester United 3-0, all is fantastic, we are going to crash. When you watch the game again, the line [between success and failure] was very thin.”

There were hopes that Spurs could bounce back from this defeat by beating Liverpool at the weekend, but Pochettino’s side were poor again.

Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at Wembley, but the scoreline could have been even worse for Pochettino’s men.

And Jenas believes that it was a strange message to send out about his side.

“It’s weird that message,” Jenas said. “For me, personally, he’s maybe questioning work ethic to an extent. He’s seeing them more day in day out in training so I suppose he’s more entitled to that opinion.

“All we get to see on a Saturday is that, what’s he saying, come to fruition, that they think they can coast through games and the Premier League is too ruthless.”

Tottenham fell 2-0 down against Liverpool, when Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino both found the back of the net.

Liverpool could then have put the result beyond doubt, but they were wasteful in front of goal, and allowed Erik Lamela to strike a late consolation for Spurs.
