Should Tottenham Hotspur accept Toby Alderweireld’s reported wage demands and hand him a new deal?

Alderweireld has been on the books of Tottenham since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Atletico Madrid for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £11.4 million.
The Belgium international has established himself as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and in the world.
The 28-year-old centre-back is injured at the moment, and his absence has been felt by Spurs, who are out of the Premier League title race already this season.

According to The Daily Mail, Alderweireld earns £50,000 per week as salary at Spurs and is out of contract at Spurs in the summer of 2019.
It has also been reported that there are growing concerns that Spurs could be forced to sell the Belgian due to no progress in talks over a new contract, with the star claimed to be asking for more than £100,000 per week as salary.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas has suggested that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy should pay whatever it takes to keep the former Ajax star part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team in the future.

Jenas told Yahoo! Sport: “Alderweireld is right up there with Sergio Ramos and whoever else is in that mix to be the best defender in European football.
“He could get into the Real Madrid side straight away and improve them, so Tottenham have to make sure they resolve his contract situation and make sure he stays at the club.
“He would be the one I would be worried about and the chairman is going to have to shift to make sure Alderweireld is happy and committed to the club for the long-term.”
“If it takes £150,000 to £200,000 to keep Alderweireld then pay it,” added Jenas. “If he runs down his contract and you sell him, then it will cost £60m to replace him so pay the money now and keep the player at the club.”
