Davinson Sanchez has impressed for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
Jermaine Jenas has said on BT Sport that Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves for the way he’s adapted to English football.
Tottenham spent a club-record £42 million on signing the 21-year-old centre-back in the summer and he has looked like a real star in his first five months in the Premier League.
The Colombia international has slotted into Spurs’ defence seamlessly and posted another fine performance on Tuesday when the Lilywhites thrashed Southampton 5-2 at Wembley.
Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick to make it 56 goals for club and country in 2017, received the post-match plaudits for obvious reason, but Jenas has singled out Sanchez for praise and believes the youngster doesn’t get the acknowledgement that he deserves.
“21 years of age, first season in the Premier League. I think he has had an unbelievable first half of the season,” he said on BT Sport.
“Doesn’t get any recognition for it and goes about his job the right way.”
Sanchez has indeed been a fine acquisition for Tottenham and he will surely only get better and better under Mauricio Pochettino.
If he keeps on improving then perhaps Toby Alderweireld’s contract dispute is not of the same importance. The Belgian is a huge player for the North Londoners, and Pochettino will be desperate to keep him, but Sanchez has certainly proved himself a very capable deputy and he could be among the world’s best central defenders in a few short years.
