Tottenham Hotspur signed Victor Wanyama from Southampton during the summer transfer window.
Jermaine Jenas has told Yahoo that he doubts whether Victor Wanyama will be able to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice line-up at Tottenham Hotspur.
Wanyama was brought to Spurs from Southampton during the summer transfer window, and he has unquestionably added strength to Pochettino’s midfield ranks.
However, Jenas does not believe that the Kenyan has the ability to break up Eric Dier’s and Mousa Dembele’s impressive partnership, when they are both fully fit.
“Victor Wanyama also strengthens them in the centre of the park, although his value to the squad will partly depend on his attitude,” Jenas said.
“Nobody likes sitting on the bench, especially not an established top flight player like Wanyama, but he will have to accept it a lot of the time because I don’t see him in Tottenham’s first-choice midfield. For me, that’s still Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele. Plus, Wanyama certainly shouldn’t be playing alongside Dier because they are too similar.”
Wanyama has made six appearances for Spurs to date, and he has generally impressed.
The 25-year-old has added steel to Tottenham’s side when on the pitch, and he even scored his first goal for the club against Crystal Palace.
With Dier and Demebele now fit, it could still be a tough for Wanyama to break into Spurs’ side on a regular basis, though.
Tottenham’s next fixture comes against top of the table Manchester City at the weekend.
