Jermaine Jenas delivers verdict on Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie’s post-match comments

Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie scored the winning goal as Rafael Benitez’s side beat Manchester City last night.

Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport, during their live coverage of Newcastle United’s match against Manchester City, that Matt Ritchie sent a message to Mike Ashley in his post-game interview.

Newcastle managed to pull off a spectacular victory last night, as they beat Manchester City 2-1.

The Magpies came from behind to beat the reigning Premier League champions, despite a backdrop of frustration at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are yet to make a signing this month – although that is set to change soon – and owner Mike Ashley has faced criticism for not backing Rafael Benitez with funds.

And Ritchie stated after the match that he wanted more belief around St. James’ Park.

The £10 million signing from Bournemouth (Guardian) said: “There was a couple of lines in there. ‘Hoping that the people around can believe like they believe on the pitch’. I think that was a bit of a message. Give this team a little bit more and you might get a little bit more.”

Newcastle fans’ and players’ frustrations should be lifted in the coming days, as it seems that Mike Ashley is set to sanction a triple deal.

The Independent have suggested that Newcastle could bring in Miguel Almiron, Andreas Samaris and Antonio Barreca.
