Everton were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Jermaine Jenas labelled Everton as ‘naive’ and ‘shocking’ following their heavy 6-2 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
Marco Silva’s side, who opened the scoring through Theo Walcott after 21 minutes, conceded three goals before half-time as the away team doubled their tally after the break.
At one point, Gylfi Sigurdsson did offer hope for his side when he made it 4-2 after 51 minutes before Mauricio Pochettino’s men showcased their dominance to secure a comprehensive victory.
The result means that the Toffees are yet to keep a clean sheet in December and they have conceded 13 goals from their five league encounters this month.
Former Premier League midfielder Jenas blasted the Everton performance, particularly the defending for Son Heung-Min’s equaliser, which saw Jordan Pickford come off his line and collide with his teammate Kurt Zouma.
“I really thought it was naïve from them during the early stages,” Jenas told BBC’s Match of the Day 2 programme on 24/12/2018 at 10:55 pm. “They were playing not only such a high line, but they weren’t tracking the runs of Son, Kane or Dele from deep.
“It was almost like ‘we are in position but then we are allowing Harry Kane in between us both (CB’s)’. But from Everton’s point of view [Son’s equaliser], it is shocking. [Lack of] communication, understanding and understanding of where they needed to be on the pitch.”
Everton are currently sitting in the bottom half of the table, three points off seventh-placed Watford heading into the festive games.
From their opening 18 matches in the league this term, Silva’s side have conceded 28 goals and found the back of the net on 26 occasions.
Sean Dyche’s Burnley, who currently sit in the relegation zone, will host the Merseyside club on Boxing Day before Silva’s men travel to Brighton three days later.
