Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane could eclipse Alan Shearer’s record of Premier League goals when all is said and done.
Jermaine Jenas has written on Unibet that Alan Shearer believes Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane could spend time out of the Premier League and still beat his record of goals in England’s top flight.
The Spurs marksman struck a last-gasp penalty at Anfield on Sunday to snatch a 2-2 draw for the Lilywhites and, on an individual level, reach the milestone of 100 Premier League goals.
In doing so, Kane is the quickest player to reach that feat since the Newcastle icon, who did it in 124 games – 17 less than the 24-year-old sensation.
He is still some way shy of Shearer’s haul of 283 Premier League goals but, according to Jenas, the Magpies legend believes that Kane could join someone like Real Madrid and still wind up eclipsing him if and when he returns to England.
“The biggest thing Harry needs to do to break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record is to stay in the Premier League,” he told wrote on Unibet.
“I spoke to Shearer about Harry the other day and he thinks, if Harry stays injury free, he could easily go to Madrid and come back and still beat the record.”
Joining Real Madrid isn’t a foregone conclusion, but the North Londoners could and probably should brace themselves for summer interest from the Spanish giants.
At this rate, Kane could be a once-in-a-generation number nine and at some point Real are going to test Tottenham’s resolve with what would have to be a massive bid.
