Jermaine Jenas has suggested why Newcastle United star Ayoze Perez is playing well at the moment, as quoted in The Chronicle.

Perez has been playing well in recent weeks and scored a hat-trick for Newcastle in their 3-1 win against Southampton at St. James’ Park in the Premier League at the weekend.

According to WhoScored, the attacker has made 31 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle this season, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in the process.

Former Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jenas has suggested why Perez is playing well now.

The Chronicle quotes Jenas as saying: “Seven of his ten goals have come since Almiron came to the club. he’s been in good form and he thoroughly deserved his hat-trick.

“He’s a player much improved by being let off the lead a bit to play where he wants to play. Previous to that it’s all been about hard work now obviously it’s about goals.”

Safe from the drop

Newcastle are 13th in the Premier League table at the moment with 41 points from 35 matches.

The Magpies are safe from the dreaded drop to the Championship, and it will be interesting to see what they do in the summer.

Manager Rafael Benitez is out of contract at the end of the season, and the squad also needs better players to challenge for a top-10 finish in the Premier League.
