Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport’s Champions League highlight show that the only negative from Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Real Madrid last night was the injury which Toby Alderweireld picked up.

Alderweireld limped off during the first-half of the contest clutching his hamstring, and it seems that the Belgian could be out for a number of weeks.

Spurs coped without Alderweireld last night, as they picked up a 3-1 victory over Madrid.

But Jenas feels that Alderweireld’s absence could be a big loss to Tottenham over the coming weeks.

“I suppose the one negative from tonight is the injury to Toby Alderweireld and he’s a big, big loss,” Jenas said.

Alderweireld’s absence is likely to see Eric Dier move back into central defence, with Moussa Sissoko or Mousa Dembele stepping into midfield.

Sissoko was picked to replace Alderweireld last night, but whether the Frenchman will come into the starting line-up at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace at the weekend remains to be seen.

Tottenham scored their goals against Madrid through Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, to book their place in the Champions League knockout stages.
