Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Liverpool’s front three have to be suffering from fatigue.
The Reds have suffered from injuries at the back this season, but they’ve also been misfiring up the other end of the pitch, and Jenas believes that this bad form is down to physical exhaustion.
“I just think we’re looking at a team that are built to play a certain way. High press, high up the pitch with the safety net of van Dijk at the back and they’re shattered. Those three players are absolutely shattered there and out of form, and I think next season they’ll be back to their best,” Jenas said.

This is certainly an interesting way of looking at things.
Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino haven’t been at their best, and to be fair there hasn’t been much chance to rest due to the compacted schedule brought about by the pandemic.
Mohamed Salah is a different case entirely, while Liverpool have been poor going forward, it’s hard to truly argue that he’s been out of form. After all, he remains one of the top scorers in the Premier League this season.
Whether or not the Reds’ attackers are back to their best next season remains to be seen, but Jenas certainly thinks that they’ll turn things around.
