Sunderland supporters left in large numbers during their match against Manchester City at the weekend.
Jermaine Jenas has told Match of the Day’s Facebook page that Sunderland fans should be ashamed of themselves, after leaving early during their side’s match against Manchester City.
Sunderland actually put in a spirited display against City, but many of their supporters gave up before full-time.
After Leroy Sane netted City’s second goal, Sunderland fans left in large numbers – leaving the Stadium of Light looking very sparsely populated.
And Jenas said: “Sunderland fans, leaving the stadium after 60 minutes… In recent weeks Sunderland fans have had reasons to be upset, but I don’t personally think that Sunderland didn’t put in the effort.
“To see the fans leaving in their droves, in their thousands, is demoralising. Sunderland fans, I think you should be ashamed.”
Sunderland fell behind in the match when Sergio Aguero flicked in a shot at the front post in the first-half.
The Black Cats had previously put up a good fight, but just could not turn their pressure in to goals.
When Sane’s scored Pep Guardiola’s side’s second goal it was effectively game over, and Sunderland fans had clearly had enough of what they have seen.
Sunderland’s defeat to City leaves them in serious danger of facing relegation.
The Wearsiders are currently sat at the bottom of the Premier League table – six pints adrift of safety.
