Everton were beaten 3-2 by Tottenham Hotspur in their most recent fixture.
Jermaine Jenas has told BBC Match of the Day, which was broadcast on 6th March, that he thought Ronald Koeman got his tactics wrong during Everton’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Everton were beaten 3-2 by Spurs in their latest outing, after what was a disappointing display.
The Toffees could not match Tottenham for much of the contest, and Jenas was surprised by how defensive Koeman’s side were.
“I thought Ronald Koeman got the shape and his personnel wrong today, especially in the first-half,” Jenas said. “I thought they were far too conservative and not really as attacking. I thought they’d have played far more attacking. Nobody was willing to break the lines of the Spurs defence.”
Tottenham went into a 2-0 lead against Everton thanks to a Harry Kane double, and that forced Everton to play on the front foot more.
The Toffees did get back into the match with a goal through Romelu Lukaku, but they could not turn it around.
Dele Alli scored Spurs’ third and although Enner Valencia hit a late consolation, Koeman’s side fell to a their first league defeat of 2017.
Everton’s defeat means that they have failed to close the gap on six placed Manchester United, who also were not able to win this weekend.
Everton are next in action against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
