Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente scored the winning goal as his side beat Watford on Wednesday night.

BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Tottenham supporters were ‘turning’ on Fernando Llorente during his side’s 2-1 win over Watford on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old, who started up front once against for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the absence of Harry Kane, and netted the winning goal in the crucial Premier League encounter.

Throughout the match, Llorente missed a number of guilt-edge opportunities, including one from close-range, with his attempted shot coming off his knee and going over the bar.

Nonetheless, former midfielder Jenas offered his thoughts on the first-teamers performance against Watford and how things could have turned ugly for the Spaniard.

“Today there was some good signs,” Jenas told Match of the Day on BBC One on 30/01/2019. “His hold up play, bringing other players into play. You could see the improvements.

“But it was a mixed bag at times. I felt that the crowd were turning slightly, at one point. The most important moment within the game, he was a part of. He had that defining moment in the game where he scores the winning goal.”

During Wednesday nights encounter, Watford took the lead through Craig Cathcart in the first half before the home team staged a comeback in the final 10 minutes of the match.

The returning Heung-min Son powered home an equaliser before Llorente’s well-judged header hit the back of the net to secure all three points for his team.

Since Kane’s injury against Manchester United earlier on this month, Pochettino has had to adjust his first-team plans, with Dele Alli also on the sidelines.

Versatile attacker Son recently returned from international duty and during that time Llorente has been deploying the forward role for his team.

Now, Pochettino and his side will welcome Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United to Wembley at the weekend following their win over Manchester City on Tuesday night.
