The Dutchman has been in great form for Southampton this season.
Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has continued to impress at the club this season. He has been in excellent form for the club, as he has been since making his move from Celtic in the summer of 2015.
This weekend he has been linked with plenty of big clubs. The Mirror report that Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton all hope to make a move for Van Dijk in the winter and that the player has a £25 million buy-out clause at St Mary’s.
Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk arrives for training
Yesterday, whilst appearing on BT Sport Score (03/12/2016), former Premier League player turned pundit Jermaine Jenas made it clear that, in his eyes, the Dutch defender is very much good enough to play for clubs of such prestige:
“He’s got everything you want from a centre-half. He’s brilliant on the ball, he’s got that leadership about him, that presence about him, he wins all his headers.
“It’s a matter of time before he’s gone. It’s the way Southampton is ran.
“If you look at Barca’s two centre-halves yeah? Madrid? He could play anywhere as far as I am concerned.”
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk heads clear
Van Dijk is undoubtedly a top talent and Southampton fans will not want to see him depart the club.
However, the fans on the South-Coast are certainly no strangers to watching their best players depart for so-called bigger clubs.

As Jenas suggested, it is surely only a matter of time before the defender does exit Southampton.
Fans at the club will just hope he, at the very least, sticks around for the rest of the season.
