Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe explained the benefits of having Victor Anichebe playing alongside him in attack, during an interview with Sky Sports News broadcast at 10:46 am on November 23rd.

The 34-year-old scored his 150th Premier League goal on Saturday during the Black Cats’ 3-0 win over Hull City, moving him to seventh place on the all-time list, sitting just 13 goals shy of Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler’s total of 163.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker highlighted Anichebe’s presence in the side as a key factor to the current form he is in, and when asked if having a strike partner has helped him, he told Sky Sports:

“Yes massively, because there are times in games where they put two defenders on him, and there’s space for me to run in behind and get my chances.”

The 11-capped Nigeria international has been a revelation since arriving at the Stadium of Light in September, and has scored three goals in four Premier League outings for Sunderland, helping fire them off of the bottom of the table.

David Moyes’ men still sit three points adrift of safety, however, so both Defoe and Anichebe will have to continue their impressive form if their side has any chance at all of avoiding relegation this term.
