Jermain Defoe shares conversation he had with Brad Friedel about Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been in scintillating form so far this season.

Jermain Defoe has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 12th October, that Brad Friedel always said that Harry Kane would become Tottenham Hotspur’s next goalscoring striker.

Defoe and Friedel were in the senior squad, while Kane was still making a name for himself in Spurs’ youth-team.

However, Kane’s finishing ability, even at a young age, did not go unnoticed.

And Defoe claims that Kane should have been called up to Tottenham’s first-team even earlier than he was.

“I remember Harry always scoring goals in the under-21’s. Brad Friedel said that if you ever leave this football club, Harry will be the one that takes over, and I agreed,” the current Bournemouth striker said.

“I felt he should have been involved sooner than he was, to be honest.”

Kane has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence ever since breaking into Tottenham’s team.

The 24-year-old has won the Premier League’s golden boot for the last two seasons, and has continued to score frequently this time around.

Kane has 11 goals in his first nine Tottenham appearances this season, across all competitions.

Kane also scored twice for England across the most recent international break.

Tottenham are next in action this weekend against Bournemouth, and a victory could take them to within two points of the top of the Premier League table.
