Rangers made it two league wins in a row on Saturday afternoon as they hammered St Mirren 4-0 at Ibrox in a somewhat strange victory at Ibrox.
The Gers eased past Livingston last weekend before advancing past Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup in midweek, and were back with another win on Saturday, this time in the league.
They got their three points in bizarre circumstances, as they were handed four penalties in Saturday’s win, with James Tavernier scoring the first within the first three minutes of the game.
Tavernier missed another penalty in the first half before scoring the third in the second half, and he then passed the fourth penalty on to Jermain Defoe for his first Ibrox goal.
Ryan Kent added a fourth to wrap up all three points for Rangers, keeping the pressure on league leaders Celtic in the pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.
Defoe will have been delighted to get off the mark at Ibrox with his penalty, which was something of a surprise given that Tavernier could have wrapped up a hat-trick had he taken his fourth spot kick of the game.
That’s now two goals in 176 minutes of league action for Defoe at Rangers, and he took to Twitter to send a message to Rangers fans after Saturday’s win, admitting it was nice to score against and grab his first Ibrox goal, but he most pleased with another victory.
