Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has said on The Beautiful Game podcast that he would love to see Nathan Ake move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Defoe played with Ake at Bournemouth, and the former Tottenham striker believes that the ex-Chelsea central defender would be a good signing for Spurs.

The Rangers striker has also outlined the attributes of the 25-year-old Netherlands international central defender.

Defoe said about Ake on The Beautiful Game podcast: “I would love to see him at Tottenham you know. He’s got so much potential. Coming from Chelsea it was difficult to get in the team there. He went to Watford, and Bournemouth paid a big fee for him.

“He’s technically good, Dutch players always are. Scores a lot of goals from set-pieces, he is really brave which is good. One of the nicest guys I’ve met in football, you’d even let him date your sister.

“I would love to see him get to the next level and play in the Champions League. I feel he is that good, I’m sure.”

Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

With Jan Vertonghen set to leave Tottenham at the end of the season, head coach Jose Mourinho will need a replacement defender.

Ake is a very good player who has progressed a lot from his Chelsea days, and the 25-year-old is at the right age to make the step up from Bournemouth.

With the Cherries looking likely to get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, they may be open to cashing in on Ake.

Meanwhile, former Spurs central defender Michael Dawson believes that Tottenham have failed to replace Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international attacking midfielder left the North London outfit for Italian giants Inter Milan in the January transfer window.

Dawson said on talkSPORT (9:19am, July 13, 2020): “Yeah, Jack (Grealish) is a fantastic player. When they let Eriksen go, his head had been turned but 18 months ago he was incredible, different class, they haven’t replaced him, I love Lo celso, he is incredible.

“Dele Alli is incredible too – but Harry Kane misses Eriksen. He made opportunities for Harry, it gave Harry goal after goal. We are being critical of Spurs, but those heights aren’t being hit.”
