Rangers beat St Mirren 4-0 at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has told Rangers TV that he thinks Alfredo Morelos is ‘sharp and aggressive’, and can now understand why he has scored so many goals.

The Gers were in action against St Mirren on Saturday afternoon, and picked up a 4-0 win in bizarre circumstances having been given four penalties.

James Tavernier got the ball rolling with an early penalty, but then missed another before the break, only to score another one after half time to make it 2-0.

Defoe then got his first Ibrox goal with a penalty of his own, despite Tavernier being on a hat-trick, and Ryan Kent then added a fourth goal late on – this time from open play.

It was a strange day at Ibrox, but Steven Gerrard will be delighted to have picked up another three points, and given more playing time to Defoe and Alfredo Morelos as a strike partnership.

Gerrard has been testing a 4-3-1-2 system with Kent in a free role behind Defoe and Morelos, with fans still yet to be convinced that it really works.

Defoe has now given his verdict on top goalscorer Morelos having played with him a few times now, claiming that he is ‘sharp and aggressive’, as well as a nightmare for defenders.

Defoe added that he was ‘exactly the same’ as Morelos at 22, just desperate and hungry to score goals, and believes it’s a ‘good sign’ that Morelos plays that way.

“It’s good,” said Defoe. “He is so sharp, he is aggressive and I can see why he has scored a lot of goals. I can imagine a lot of defenders hate playing against him, because he is relentless with his running. I think he’s 22, and I was exactly the same, when you are that age you are just hungry to score goals, it’s a good sign,” he added.
