Rangers forward Jermain Defoe has hailed the ability of midfielder Joe Aribo, impressed by what he’s had to offer since joining the club during the summer transfer window, The Scottish Sun report.

The Nigerian international has had a promising start to life at Ibrox, scoring four goals and assisting twice in all competitions.

It was his classy pass that allowed Defoe to score his second goal against St Johnstone at the weekend.

Now the striker has picked out the midfielder as a particularly exciting addition to Steven Gerrard’s squad.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Defoe said: “Joe has been fantastic since he has come in. He keeps the ball, and glides past people.

“At my second goal I didn’t think he’d seen me, but he played a clever pass through the defender’s legs. Joe’s a fantastic talent.

“We have added a lot of quality, and the players who have come in have done really well. It’s not always easy to come in and play for a club like Rangers, but I feel the players who have come in have done really well, and added that quality.”

What Rangers have been missing?

Last season the Gers’ lack of creativity in midfield was apparent. It was one of the reasons they drew more matches than they should have and fell away from Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Aribo has already added an extra spark to the middle of the park. His first couple of months at Ibrox haven’t been perfect, there have been a few poor displays.

However, he’s still adjusting to life in Scotland and appears to be growing into his role as a dynamic, forward thinking midfielder.

Using his recent form as a baseline, he should improve further as the weeks and months go on.

He’s making an impact at international level too, scoring on his debut against Nigeria earlier this month and subsequently included in the squad to play Brazil in October.

If he can continue notching up assists and getting himself into scoring positions, he’ll have a big part to player in Rangers’ season.
