Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe has told the Chronicle it was a special moment for him to bag his 150th Premier League goal at the Stadium of Light.
The striker was on form once again on Saturday afternoon, scoring his side’s opening goal in the 3-0 win over Hull City.
That strike was his seventh of the season and took him to 150 Premier League goals in total, taking him level with Michael Owen as the seventh highest goalscorer in the history of the division.
It is an impressive tally and the striker is naturally delighted to have reached it, saying it was special to do so at the Stadium of Light.
“It feels amazing,” he told the Chronicle.
“I wanted to do it at the Stadium of Light so to do it here in a big game that we’ve won, and earn back-to-back wins, was meant to be, and I believe it was meant to happen like this so I’m delighted.”

Defoe will now be eyeing the chance to add to his tally and move further up the rankings moving forward.
This goal proved to be a key one as it set his team on the road to a victory, just their second of the season.
Those three points were enough to move Sunderland off the bottom of the table and just three points from safety and Defoe promises there is more to come from the Black Cats.
“When you get back-to-back wins, which is never easy at any stage of the season, and have good performances it’s important,” he added.
“There is so much more this team is going to bring between now and the end of the season.”
