Glasgow Rangers duo Jermain Defoe and James Tavernier scored for Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox on Saturday.

Tavernier scored twice from the penalty spot and also failed to convert one during Rangers’ 4-0 win against St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
The 27-year-old former Newcastle United right-back had the chance to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot, but he decided to let Defoe take it.
The 36-year-old former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur striker, signed on loan from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, did not make any mistake in scoring the penalty.
Defoe has thanked Tavernier for his gesture, and the Rangers striker has admitted that he was surprised by it, and he has also praised the right-back for stepping up to take a penalty after he missed one.

Defoe told Rangers’ official website about Tavernier: “For the captain to give you the ball when he is on a hat-trick it says a lot about his character and it says a lot about the spirit of the team.
“I was surprised when he gave me the ball because he was on his hat-trick, not many people would do that! Credit to him, he is a great guy – he wanted me to get my first Ibrox goal. I can’t remember the last time a full-back scored a hat-trick but he got his two goals.
“He showed great character to be honest because a lot of players if they miss a penalty they hide a little a bit but he wanted to step up and take it again.”
Title challenge
The win against St Mirren means that Rangers are now second in the Scottish Premiership table with 48 points from 24 matches, six points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
