Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Jeremy Toljan this month.
Celtic are seemingly looking to make the most of the final days of the January transfer window, with the Scottish Daily Mail (29/1; page 78) reporting that the Hoops are keen on signing Jeremy Toljan on loan.
Toljan has not enjoyed the best spell with Borussia Dortmund following his £4.5 million (via Scottish Daily Mail; 29/1; page 78), and he is now available to leave on a temporary basis.
And if Celtic could be the ones to land the right-back this month, a deal has the potential to be one of the Hoops’ most inspired of Brendan Rodgers’ tenure.
Rodgers will surely need to address the problems at right-back sooner rather than later. Mikael Lustig has been a fantastic servant, but his form over the last year or so has arguably made finding the Swede’s replacement a priority for the Celtic boss.
The reports allude to a potential loan move, but if there is any chance of a permanent deal for Toljan at some stage further down the line, the Scottish Premiership champions have to do all they can to reach an agreement.
Toljan has the potential to be a huge upgrade on Lustig. The 24-year-old has previously been a key player in the Bundesliga and has played a handful of games in the Europa League and Champions League.
He is also able to play on either flank, and the best years should still be ahead of him despite his struggles at Westfalenstadion. Celtic have arguably enjoyed a good January window, but a deal for Toljan has the potential to be one of the most remarkable pieces of business that Rodgers has done at Parkhead.
