Celtic defender Jeremy Toljan has told The Scottish Sun that he is ready to challenge Mikael Lustig for a place in the starting lineup.

Toljan joined Celtic on loan from Borussia Dortmund on January transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old right-back will stay at Celtic Park on loan until the end of the season.

Lustig is the first-choice right-back at Celtic at the moment, but the Sweden international has not been great in recent times.

The 32-year-old right-back has been on the books of the Hoops since January 2012 after signing a pre-contract agreement with the Glasgow giants in November 2011 when Neil Lennon was in charge of the Scottish Premiership outfit, according to BBC Sport.

Toljan has said that he is ready to challenge Lustig for the right-back spot in Brendan Rodgers’s team.

“I’m looking forward to challenging Mikael Lustig,” Toljan told The Scottish Sun. “Right-back is my main position. But it’s like everywhere. There are guys who want to play and I am no different.”

First-choice right-back

Toljan is a very good right-back, and given that he is 24 years of age, he is likely to get the nod ahead of Lustig in the team in the coming weeks and months.
