Jens Lehmann told CBS Sport on Paramount+ (14/04/21 at 10:05 pm) that he would be ‘a little bit scared’ of reported Liverpool target, Erling Haaland, if he was confronted by him.

The Highbury legend shared that he ‘cannot remember’ a striker he was ‘afraid’ of during his playing days, but Haaland is something different.

Alongside Kylian Mbappe, the 20-year-old is one of the most sought-after players in Europe, with Sky Sports reporter, Dharmesh Seth, claiming in March that the Dortmund speedster would like to play for Jurgen Klopp.

After Haaland’s side were knocked out of the Champions League yesterday, to another interested party in Manchester City, Lehmann raved about the Dortmund star’s qualities.

On his future: “If they insist then he has to stay because he doesn’t have a release clause from now until the end of the season,” said Lehmann.

“He’s is probably an unprecedented striker because he is full of speed, very physical and technically very aware.

“And I cannot remember a striker, who I was afraid of, but if I was confronted by him now then I would be a little bit scared.”

Whilst Dortmund were booted out of Europe by Manchester City, the same pain was felt by Liverpool on Merseyside.

It now means that if the current Premier League champions want to compete with the elite next season then they have to finish in the top four.

At this moment in time, that’s out of their hands and it has to be questioned whether they would lose any grip on signing a player like Haaland if they aren’t in the Champions League next term.
