Jermaine Jenas is backing Spurs duo Dele Alli and Harry Kane to start for England.
Former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas has taken to Twitter to claim that Tottenham stars Dele Alli and Harry Kane should start for England at Euro 2016 – but thinks Wayne Rooney will be picked.
England performed a stirring performance to come from 2-0 down to beat world champions Germany 3-2 in Berlin on Saturday night, but were given a reality check when they lost 2-1 at home to Netherlands on Tuesday night.
Roy Hodgson’s men will still enter this summer’s European Championships with optimism though, given the crop of talented youngsters at Hodgson’s disposal.
Tottenham’s Dele Alli and Harry Kane lead that group of prospects, having not only impressed in the Premier League, but also on the international stage so far.
Kane, 22, is the Premier League’s top scorer and proved his goalscoring prowess with a superbly taken goal against Germany, whilst 19-year-old playmaker Alli – who has taken the Premier League by storm this season – was influential against Germany, even if he did miss a superb chance at the Olympiastadion.
Much has been made of the connection between Alli and Kane, as the duo have linked up to great effect for Spurs, and fans believe Alli should play behind Kane for England in order to maximise that relationship on the international stage.
Now, former Spurs midfielder and current pundit Jermaine Jenas has taken to Twitter to suggest that Hodgson should do just that, and pick Alli playing in behind Kane at Euro 2016 – but he thinks England boss Hodgson will instead go with Wayne Rooney in one of those positions.
Alli could of course play in a deeper role, but Jenas seems to think one of Alli or Kane will be left on the bench in favour of Manchester United ace Rooney.
