Jenas wants Tottenham man Kane to mirror Manchester United’s Lukaku

Tottenham striker Kane will lead the line for England on Wednesday night against Croatia.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has told the Daily Mirror that he wants to see more from Spurs ace Harry Kane, and urged him to replicate Romelu Lukaku’s heroics against Brazil.

Kane, 24, remains the World Cup’s top goalscorer this summer with six strikes, including a hat-trick against Panama and a brace against Tunisia and will captain England against Croatia on Wednesday night in the semi-final.

The Spurs striker failed to score against Sweden in the quarter-final, as Dele Alli and Harry Maguire headed England to a 2-0 win. England fans will be hoping Kane is on target at the Luzhniki, and Jenas has urged Kane to give more.

Former Spurs ace Jenas was hugely unimpressed by Kane against Sweden and wants to see the striker give more against Croatia, urging him to mirror Man United striker Lukaku’s performance against Brazil in the quarter-final.

“A point not raised so far is that he did nothing against Sweden in Saturday’s quarter-final. It was his worst game for us. He was non-existent. Harry looked really tired. Shot of energy,” Jenas said.

“Look at what Romelu Lukaku did against Brazil. That is what we need from Harry now. Lukaku was a nightmare for that Brazil side. Eden Hazard also stepped up, got a hold of the game and dragged them through.

“Lukaku ran at people, Hazard wriggled past rivals and burst free. That is what we need from Harry. He is capable of doing it and has more in his locker even if he is, understandably, a bit mentally and physically fatigued.”

Kane was handed the captaincy before the start of the World Cup after scoring 41 goals in 48 league and cup encounters for the north Londoners last season. He signed a new six-year deal before the World Cup.

Lukaku failed to provide the difference on Tuesday night as France set Belgium packing with a narrow 1-0 win in the semi-final, booking their place in the World Cup final on Sunday.
