Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez is reportedly on the radar of Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
According to The Mirror, United are interested in signing Alderweireld from Premier League rivals Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
Former Spurs and Newcastle United midfielder Jenas has suggested that the North London outfit can cope without the Belgium international defender, who earns £75,000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star.
The former England international has also suggested that the progress and development of Davinson Sanchez should allay any worries about losing Alderweireld.
The 21-year-old Colombia international centre-back has established himself as a key player in the Tottenham defence.
Jenas told Yahoo Sport: “That Spurs defence looked pretty solid for most of the campaign and Sanchez was a key part of that, so the club may look at how much it would cost to keep Alderweireld and believe they have a better value for money option in Sanchez. In many respects, I probably agree with that.
“I would love Toby to stay because I believe he is the best defender in the world when he is right at it, but we will see where it goes from here.
“I’m sure there will be plenty of big clubs trying to sign him, with Manchester United believed to be among those.”
Coping without Toby Alderweireld
Selling 29-year-old Alderweireld for a lot of money would be smart from Tottenham, but if the Belgian defender joins United, then he would strengthen the Red Devils’ backline.
However, Tottenham could use that money to sign a young central defender or invest in other areas of the squad.
