Jermaine Jenas has suggested on Instagram that Celtic’s players definitely didn’t do their research on Glasgow Rangers striker Jermain Defoe before the Old Firm derby.

Rangers beat Celtic 4-1 at the weekend, with Defoe netting the final goal of the game for Steven Gerrard’s men.

Defoe’s goal was typical of him, he chopped inside before finishing smartly beyond Scott Bain in the Celtic goal to widen the margin between the two sides.

Surprisingly Defoe’s trick seemed to catch the Celtic defence off guard.

And Jenas was shocked that the Bhoys fell for the piece of skill so easily.

He wrote: “The fact these man didn’t know you were gonna chop like that tells me that ain’t seen you banging in goals none stop for years 😂🙌🏽.”

Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson also noted how the goal was a ‘classic’ for Defoe.

“Classic no backlift Defoe 👏🏽🔥,” he responded.

Rangers’ comprehensive win over Celtic just serves to widen the gap between the two sides even further.

Defoe’s goal may also help to keep at Rangers for another season.

The veteran striker has proven his worth on occasion off the bench this season, and Sky Sports say that the Light Blues are now in discussions to extend his deal.
