Jermaine Jenas told BBC Sport’s coverage of England’s 3-0 win over Wales that he could hear Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson “screaming” during the first half at his teammates – in order to start the press and keep the intensity up.
England cruised to a 3-0 win after a tricky first 45 minutes in which they missed chances, but struggled to open Wales up. In the second 45, it was the Marcus Rashford show. Gareth Southgate decided to swap the wingers around at HT.
Indeed, it worked a treat. Phil Foden cut inside and won the free-kick that Rashford scored. Then, Harry Kane’s inch-perfect cross was well-finished by Foden moments later. Rashford scored a second late on after cutting inside.
Henderson, 32, was given his second appearance of the World Cup and his first start – lasting the entire 90 minutes. Jenas said during commentary, that he could hear Henderson screaming at his teammates to keep the press on.
On 29 minutes with the scoreline reading 0-0, ex-England midfielder Jenas said on BBC’s commentary of the game: “He’s fired up here Jordan Henderson. You can hear him screaming, organising and telling his teammates to press.”

Jenas: Liverpool captain screaming at England teammates
It will come as no surprise to Liverpool fans, or Henderson’s Liverpool teammates, to see him screaming and shouting. Liverpool’s core players are often referred to as mentality monsters and a lot of that is down to the ex-Sunderland ace.
He drives the standards at Anfield and that is why he continues to remain such a crucial player for the club, and Jurgen Klopp. While he is not England captain, he certainly plays like he is – another leader on a pitch, full of captains.
It is fair to say that if England go far in Qatar, then Henderson will have an enormous say in that – whether it is on the pitch with the ball at his feet, or encouraging his teammates in training. Or, as Jenas says, screaming at them.
