Tottenham Hotspur have finished in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Jermaine Jenas has explained to Yahoo Sports what would be progress for Tottenham Hotspur next season.

The former Tottenham midfielder has stated that finishing in the top four of the Premier League and progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League during the 2018-19 campaign would be a success for the North London outfit.

Spurs ended up in the top four of the league this campaign for the third successive year and also reached the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Jenas told Yahoo Sports: “If they get back into the top four, maybe get into the quarters or semis of the Champions League and try and win a cup, that would be progress for Spurs next season.

“As we sit here now, it is hard to imagine anyone catching Man City in the title race, but teams will work out how to frustrate them and nullify them to an extent so things can turn around very quickly in this game.”

Jenas is spot-on with his assessment. For Tottenham, progress is not winning the Premier League title, but securing a place in the top four and making an impact in the Champions League.

It is hard to see Manchester City slowing down anytime soon, and although Spurs fans will want the team to challenge Pep Guardiola’s side, what is important is that the team finish in the top four.

Winning the EFL Cup or the FA Cup would be great, but for Tottenham, the key to a prosperous and bright future is to play in the Champions League season after season.
