Jermaine Jenas has responded on Twitter to criticism of his comments on Tottenham Hotspur forward Carlos Vinicius.
The former Tottenham midfielder was critical of Vinicius during Spurs’ 2-0 win against Royal Antwerp at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.
Jenas was co-commentary duty on BT Sport 2 for the match, and although Vinicius, signed on loan from Benfica in the summer of 2020, scored the opening goal of the match in the 57th minute, he was not too impressed.
The Englishman said about Vinicius in the 44th minute of the match on BT Sport 2 (8:46pm, December 10, 2020): “I think he is having a quite frustrating spell at the minute, just finding his feet at the club.”
Jenas added: “He has got to understand he is essentially battling out with two world-class players, Kane and Son.
“They have got to be the benchmark. He has got to watch them in training every day and think, ‘Right, what can I do to get anywhere near that?’”
Jenas has been criticised on Twitter for his comments, and he has defended his stance on Vinicius.

Vinicius did not have a pre-season with Tottenham, and one can understand why he did not hit the ground running.
The forward has not made a massive impact in the Premier League, but the 25-year-old Brazilian has shown in the Europa League that he is a valuable option for Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho.
According to WhoScored, the forward has played just 12 minutes in the Premier League, and has scored three goals and provided three assists in five Europa League appearances for Spurs this season.
