Celtic were linked with a move for Jefferson Montero back in 2012, so should they now revive their interest with Patrick Roberts likely to move elsewhere?
According to a recent report from The Scottish Sun, Celtic have conceded defeat in their pursuit of Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts – which will undoubtedly be a major blow for Brendan Rodgers.
Roberts was fantastic during his loan spell at Parkhead, and signing him once again appeared to be one of the Hoops’ priorities for the summer.

Unfortunately for the Bhoys however, it now appears that they will have to switch their attention elsewhere, so perhaps news of their 2012 target being available should attract their interest.
The Chronicle has suggested that Swansea City have offered out Jefferson Montero for a fee of £5 million, and given that the Daily Mail reported five years ago that Celtic were interested, perhaps they should now consider putting the Ecuador international on their list of targets.
The Mail suggested back in 2012 that Montero wanted to make the move to Parkhead, so it may not be out of the question to suggest that joining Rodgers’ men would still appeal to the 27-year-old given how dominant they have been domestically and that they could potentially offer him Champions League football.
On his day, Montero has given some of the very best Premier League full-backs a torrid time, dancing past them with a lethal combination of trickery and pace.
If Rodgers deems the price to be too steep – which would be understandable given his inconsistency – Celtic should surely attempt to offer a loan deal for the wide-man as his arrival may prove to be a brilliant signing for the Scottish Premiership giants.
