Jeff Stelling has claimed that rumoured Newcastle and Aston Villa target, Lucas Digne, is ‘on his way out’ of Everton, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (08/01/22 at 2:30 pm).

The Sky presenter spoke about the ’snub’ from Everton boss Rafa Benitez when the left-back was an unused substitute during their 3-2 defeat against Brighton in the Premier League last week.

Digne, 28, was left out of the match day squad that beat Hull City 3-2 in the FA Cup yesterday and it seems as though the signs are pretty clear.

It has been suggested that both Newcastle and Aston Villa are keen to add him to their books during the January transfer window, with the Midlands side preparing a bid.

Stelling thinks it’s pretty clear that Digne’s days on Merseyside are numbered given what has happened with him at Goodison Park lately.

“Well, he’s not going to be, is he? (staying in January)” said Stelling. “He’s not.

“I think a lot of people saw it as a snub if you like that he was on the bench against Brighton, but he was an unused substitute during that game.

“Well, he looks like he is on his way out, that’s for sure.”

Vitalii Mykolenko was the player purchased to seemingly take Digne’s place and he started his first game for the club yesterday.

Added with the Ukraine flyer moving to Merseyside, Benitez also added Nathan Patterson to his ranks from Rangers.

The young Scotsman is a right-back by trade, but if need be, he can also operate on the left side of defence also.

Either way, Digne will be one of the main talking points during the transfer window and it will be interesting to see how the club react if someone puts a pretty decent wad of money on the table for his talents.
